Piston Rings
Piston Rings play the role of controlling lubricating oil, and because they are used in a high-speed motion part, they are critical functional parts demanding high precision and high durability.
Latest Technical Information
Gasoline engine Piston Rings
As engine fuel efficiencies improve, a critical challenge is to make engines lighter, with reduced mechanical losses. To reduce the friction losses around pistons, where approximately 40 to 50% of total engine friction losses occur, there is an increase in "thin Piston Rings for compactness" and "low tension Piston Rings". In addition to thin, low tension Piston Rings, we offer TPR's unique new technology.
Typical piston ring composition
3-part composition of TOP, 2ND and OIL rings, the OIL ring is a 3-piece type
Introduction to key technology
3-part composition of TOP, 2ND and OIL rings, the OIL ring is a 3-piece type
No hydrogen included/ta-C DLC coating
Characteristics
- DLC film that does not include hydrogen (can apply a thick film onto the piston ring outer circumference)
- Better friction resistance and sliding features that traditional PVC CrN, contributing to lower-friction and fuel efficient engines.
- Superior compatibility for alcohol fuels.
Examples in use
- Passenger vehicle gasoline engine
- Passenger vehicle alcohol (gasoline mix) fuel engine
a-C:H DLC coating (supports aluminum alloy cylinder direct sliding)
Characteristics
- DLC film suitable for direct sliding with aluminum alloy cylinder.
- Superior match to aluminum, has low-friction.
- We mass-produced and started supply as the world's first DLC for Piston Rings.
Examples in use
Motorcycle gasoline engine
Outer circumference upper/Lower asymmetric side rail (3-piece OIL ring)
Characteristics
- Although this technology is hard to see with the naked eye, the outer circumference barrel shape apex is formed as an eccentric barrel shape below the center.
- Due to the eccentric barrel shape, oil scrape-off function is improved, enabling a design that balances friction performance and oil consumption performance.
- We were the world's first to mass produce this, contributing to fuel efficiency.
- In combination with the DLC film, higher functionality is possible. (Latest Technical Information: please see the side rail outer circumference shape AB-1 document.)
Examples in use
Passenger vehicle gasoline engine
Tx-3 deposit resistance-improving spacer (3-piece OIL ring)
Characteristics
- A spacer that controls sticking and performance degradation caused by deposits.
- With a shape that secures the maximum oil path, oil fluidity improves and suppresses ring sticking.
Examples in use
Passenger vehicle gasoline engine
Diesel engine Piston Rings
Emissions regulations/high output/long-life/fuel efficiency is being demanded for diesel engines. Piston Rings are being set with a focus on long durability and reliability, as well as oil consumption reduction and friction loss reduction.
Typical piston ring composition
3-part composition of TOP, 2ND and OIL rings, the OIL ring is a 2-piece OIL ring for durability.
Introduction to key technology
OIL ring friction reducing-shape
Characteristics
By adding a radius to the corner of the OIL ring outer circumference surface shape, the friction resistance with the cylinder bore is reduced.
Examples in use
Passenger /commercial vehicle diesel engine

Specialist rings that perform in various motor sport categories.
Characteristics
Although we cannot describe the details of the various motor sport rings, we offer specialist rings that suit the engine characteristics.
Examples in use
Domestic and overseas motor sport engine
