History/Chronology
History
TPR's direct ancestor is Gentaro Tanaka Shoten Co., Ltd., set up in 1908 by Gentaro Tanaka. Starting with the sale of lubricating oil and lubricating materials, as the criticality of the engine increased, the focus was on improving the performance of its "heart", the Piston Rings. Having established a position with a manufacturer, in 1939 "Tanaka Piston Ring Co., Ltd." was established, starting the journey which leads to the present day. in 1943 the company name was changed to "Teikoku Piston Ring Co., Ltd.", and at that time our company's Piston Rings were essential to airplane engines, even being used on the engine for the famous Zero fighter's Sakae (Prosperity) radial engine.
Subsequently, in addition to automotive parts such as Piston Rings and Cylinder Liners, we moved into a variety of businesses such as aluminum, rubber and resin, and built locations across the global six-regions including joint ventures with overseas partners, and, as a clear indication of our decision to grow big as a global company, we changed our company name to "TPR".
TPR is based on the key words behind our Corporate Philosophy, management attitude and guiding principles: "Technology" "Passion" "Reliance". In that name is our determination that "with unmatched technology and passion we will attempt to create valuable products to answer our customers' reliance on us".
